Hey Crane duelists, did you know? Crane actually shared a dueling theme in Onyx with Phoenix and Dragon (tattooed monk dueling!), But Crane's was by far the most traditional. They were effective, but would sometimes struggle against the blitzier honor decks (practically a Crane tradition).
You will see the ability "Compassion" on these cards, which are abilities that trigger while you have fewer Provinces than all other players, similar to Courtesy's "if you go second" effects. Onyx experimented with a few 'comeback' effects to try and stave off the snowball of losing. (Compassion was introduced with the release of Thunderous Acclaim in 2015.)
You will also see "Musha" on several of these cards. It was decided that Kensai as a mechanical trait would cycle out after Onyx Edition. In its place was Musha, a trait that keyed off other cards, but had no mechanical effect of its own. It basically meant 'weaponmaster'. Some cards like Daitsu are stuck with both, Kensai acting like a vestigial limb. Few, if any, Musha cards were developed or tested before the plug was pulled, though.
Some notes, [Kakita Misfit] is from Road to Ruin, a set that had a heavy focus on a siege and decisive battle for control of the Second City, which had become something of a dumping ground for Clan misfits in the interim. Other notable Cranes from that set include one that taints themselves and a Fudo cultist Asahina.
Mitohime, [Bird Person], [One Shall Stand], and Kandaisa are all from ROU, so the normal "if you play with this there was no Rules Team review nor playtesting" warning applies.
