Requirements:
Seek medical assistance immediately and provide all reasonable assistance to preserve the life of any victims
Never assume that an individual is deceased unless there is obvious signs of:
Decomposition
Decapitation
Transection(dismembered/cut in half)
Gross rigor mortis
Gross outpouring of cranial(brain) or visceral(internal organs) contents
Grossly charred body
Secure scene/treat as crime scene until determined otherwise
Gather information regarding:
Identification of the deceased
Who/how identification was made
Who last saw deceased alive
Date and time deceased was last seen alive
Medial history / medication taken by deceased
Drug /acohol usage
Advise Patrol Sgt
Call records for CPIC checks
Notify Coroner
Notify CID
Seize all Narcotics or Controlled Substances
Complete a Coroner List of Meds (complete all columns for Coroner’s Case)
Sudden Death Report (not a GOR) – requires SIN for deceased, link the coroner with the CPSO # , link the author as DIV 1, 2, or 3 CIB, name of doctor that pronounced death
