Base Features (0 FP)
Environmental Adaptation (1 FP): Rather than maintaining consistent anatomy, an Essence Mutant’s body constantly changes to match its own environment. If they survive for an hour in an environment, they become immune to Damage Conditions given passively by that environment.
They may become immune to ambient toxins or digest and live off of any material that could support a form of organic life. Anything that a biological creature could potentially evolve to survive may be allowed by the Game Master.
Unworldly Corruption (0 FP): As a manifestation of the influence of What Is Not Created, the essence within an Essence Mutant’s being opens them up to their potential patron. They are always aware of What Is Not Created and what could be bargained for.
At any time, they can offer themselves up to What Is Not Created, becoming a Chosen One and gaining power in exchange for service. They must have sufficient FP to gain whatever Features they gain from becoming a Chosen One.
Unnatural (-1 FP): Essence Mutants are unstable, there anatomy taking on forms unique to them and often in flux. As a result, they are at best unsettling and more often nauseating to observe.
When they make a check to socialize with a creature, usually meaning Checks to convince or comfort, they reduce the result by 1d4. If the check is intimidation based, they add 1d4 to the result.
Optional Features
Conscious Control (1 FP): An Essence Mutant that develops conscious control over the essence within them can stabilize their physical form into something that appears coherent and aesthetically pleasing.
While they cannot change appearance rapidly, they may pass for a healthy specimen of the species around them. This negates the effects of the Unnatural Feature.
For 2 additional FP, they can take an action to take on any form and appearance they choose, but cannot gain any Features or other mechanical changes in this manner.
For another additional 1 FP, they can gain the benefits of Environmental Adaptation when taking an action to change shape. This functions as if they had spent an hour in their current environment, but does not provide advantages beyond what is normally possible from the Environmental Adaptation Feature.
Enigmatic Mutation (1 FP): When an Essence Mutant becomes host to the influence of the Unknown Enigma, the essence within them responds in accordance with an ancient pact. Whenever making a roll to perform an action that no one would normally attempt, they add 1d4 to the result.
In addition, they carry an unfertilized egg approximately the size of their heart within their body at all times. If fertilized, this egg is immediately lain, something that takes twelve actions.
Alternatively, they can choose to produce unfertilized eggs to create more Cats Of Holding. They can take twelve actions to produce an unfertilized egg. If an egg remains within their body for a month, they will automatically lay it unfertilized.
A fertilized egg will hatch after three months into an adolescent Essence Mutant in with the expected traits from the union of both parents. However, an unfertilized egg hatches into an adolescent Cat Of Holding after a month, which is hatched with development and maturity equivalent to a eight year old child and will reach adulthood in around eight years. Eggs can be destroyed before they hatch.
For 2 additional FP, they add another 1d4. This additional cost can be payed repeatedly, adding another 1d4. The cost increases by 1 each time.
