Fu Bao's Contract - Nathan Yen (6th Grade, Juliet Morris Elementary School)
Due to a loan agreement, a courageous panda named Fu Bao was sent from China to the United States to live for ten years.
“Woah!” Fu Bao said as she left the boat and saw the city of New York. She wandered the streets of New York City and started to marvel at the complexity of the New York streets.
Fu Bao tried to buy food, but then she realized that she had no money to spend. She had absolutely no money on her.
She also realized that she had to work. She walked into the nearest Starbucks and talked to a Starbucks employee, a meerkat. “May I get a job?” Fu Bao said. “We need to interview you first,” said the meerkat.
Fu Bao went to the back of the Starbucks to be interviewed.
She finally got accepted to work. She worked four grueling hours of work and finally collapsed when she went to her apartment. She then fell into a deep sleep. Fu Bao woke up at four in the morning a day later. She felt tired, even though she slept for twelve whole hours. The reason why is that she did not meet her goal of daily ten hours of feasting.
Bamboo. Bamboo is what she needed. She went to the market but didn’t find any bamboo in it to eat. This was Fu Bao’s worst nightmare.
She wandered the streets looking for bamboo and met another panda named Su. Su was also searching for bamboo, so she joined Fu Bao. Fu Bao and Su came to a small market where they were selling bamboo.
They realized that they couldn’t afford it combined. The bamboo was too expensive. They were both dirt poor, so they had to beg for money instead of working. Once they got money, they shared the bamboo that they bought.
Fu Bao went home after eating for the full ten hours. That fueled her energy. She went to Starbucks to work again and earn money. She worked for eight grueling hours.
For the hours she worked, she received two hundred twenty five dollars, and adding the tips it would be two hundred forty dollars.
She could afford bamboo by herself again.
She goes back to her apartment and collapses on her bed. She thinks about going to China again, where bamboo grew and food flourished. She had these thoughts all the way until she fell asleep. She still dreamed of going back to China in her sleep until the alarm woke her.
“Ugh…” she said. “I’m so tired.” Once Fu Bao got up, she brushed her teeth and washed her face. She prepared to go outside and get the bamboo, but then she received a call. She answers and a voice that says it is Apple technology support. The “Apple technology support” was not actually a technology support. It was a scammer. Thankfully, Fu Bao did not fall for it and went to get the bamboo from the store.
