A Fable of Tokyo - Leyan Ma (6th Grade, Navy Elementary)
A FABLE OF TOKYO
Twice upon a time, there was a girl named Tokyo. Tokyo was a very picky eater. The only vegetable she ate was cucumbers, and the only fruit she ate was strawberries Tokyo especially hated beef, mushrooms, eggs, broccoli, shrimp, candy, and cheese. Many of the other children thought she was bonkers. After all, unless you are allergic, who wouldn’t want to eat cheese or candy?
It soon became winter, and Tokyo’s parents caught the flu. They sent her to her Aunt Patty’s so she wouldn’t get sick. Once Tokyo arrived, she was greeted with a grinning. Aunt Patty and half a bowl of broccoli, eggs, shrimp, cheese, tomato, and beef. When Tokyo’s Aunt told her it was her dinner and that was the only thing she could cook, Tokyo fainted! “I’d rather starve than eat that!” Tokyo shouted after she woke up. Aunt Patty raised an eyebrow. “Half is better than nothing!” Tokyo snorted and marched angrily out the door.
Once outside, Tokyo actually began to feel a bit hungry. But then, she thought about that disgusting bowl of mashed broccoli, eggs, shrimp, cheese, tomato, and beef. “I’m definitely never gonna eat that!” She continued her path to the woods. Since she hadn’t eaten in hours, Tokyo was losing energy and leaned against a tree to rest. “I’m dying!” she said dramatically to herself. “If you are dying, you better eat something!” a mysterious voice said. “Who and where are you?” Tokyo asked and looked around her.
“I’m Mushroom,” responded the voice. Tokyo’s eyes widened slowly and she jumped up and ran five miles back to Aunt Patty’s. Once back, Tokyo quickly ate the mashed mushrooms, beef, eggs, broccoli, shrimp, and tomato. “I’m so glad I didn’t die of starvation!” she wheezed. Aunt Patty gave her a gigantic smile.
The next day, Tokyo took her phone and umbrella with her and walked to the woods again. She leaned against a tree and started playing Roblox. “What’s that?” the same mysterious voice asked her. Tokyo jumped and glared above her, where Mushroom’s voice came from. “This is a Roblox game on my phone, you dummy!” She quickly yanked out her umbrella for defense. “Phone? Roblox? Dummy?”, Mushroom sounded extremely confused.
Tokyo slowly looked up from her phone and told Mushroom,“A phone is this device I’m holding, Roblox is a game, and dummy means you are not smart.”Mushroom quietly answered,“ I think I may be in the wrong universe. Aliens don’t have these things. We travel by floating mushrooms on Planet Bong. I don’t have a phone, Roblox, or dummy.” Tokyo couldn’t imagine not having a phone or Roblox, and she decided she was lucky after all. She took out a mushroom from her pocket which Aunt Patty gave her. Mushroom squealed, yanked the mushroom from her hands, and disappeared. Soon after, Tokyo’s parents recovered. To their surprise, their daughter came home with fifty loads of Aunt Patty’s dish and a UFO.
