We are one step closer to our goal. We received tax exemption status this past week. So we are now an official 501(c)(3) non profit. Yippee!! Grants here we come.
We had aboard meeting this last Friday. Charles has decided to withdraw from being a board member and become an advisor instead. We appreciate the work he has put into this project and look forward to working with him in the future.
Hardware/Construction
I want to continue with a short description of what we are trying to accomplish. We established in the board meeting that we want to go after DVA for their models of Independent Living Villages. The main idea is to have group homes of 6-7 people living together in a larger community. This would be about 10 homes, if the total population of the project is around 200 units. People with disabilities that need extra care and supervision will live there. This should comprise about 25% of the residents. The rest shall be regular apartments for friends, family and caregivers. We could have a student or somebody that is trained and licensed to live in one of the rooms at night for free in exchange for looking after people that live there at night. We need to always be thinking about how we can make this project affordable.
The amount of land is crucial to making this project viable. The larger the land the better off we will be in the future. I guess a minimum of 3-5 acres with an optimum of 10 acres. I would like to see a spread out complex with about 200 units, of about 2 stories. No high rise buildings. We need lots of open space for gardens and relaxation. Any extra space not used for living space can be used to generate income by creating micro businesses and or growing our own food. Again making it affordable for the future. Since we have tax exempt status there is nothing that stands in the way if we get land donated to us. The obstacle would be as to where the land is, and any cash needed to acquire it. At this point we don't have any cash, but if somebody was interested they could donate the land and the expenses. Anything is possible. If anybody is interested in looking at land I can show you how to ID the landowners.
That should be enough for now. Have a great month!
