Today is the 3rd year Anniversary of when we started this non profit, August 22, 2022. It seems like a slow process, but we are plowing on. So far we have established the non profit with the WA state on this date and received tax exempt status from the IRS. We have filed many grants and received one from the Tulalip Cares for $2,000 for outreach, which we have not used yet. Next Wave Housing wants to say thank you to Nicole Tebow, our other board member and Charles Wigle, our board advisor. Without their support we could not have created this non profit or to get our tax exemption. It's a reminder that this project will only work if we come together and work for a common goal.
We almost had a firm that would have designed our community with their expertise and experience, but alas it did not work out. Dementia Village Associates (DVA) has dropped off of our sphere. After working with them, liking our ideas and agreeing to work together, they did not respond to our contract, canceling the contract or follow up email. We were disappointed, but we will forge forward to get this project completed. I have changed videos on the website to scrub the mention of DVA and on the website, since we will not be working with them in the future.
This past two months we have applied for a few grants, and started the bidbook book that DVA wanted to build for us. I want to call it the “Proposal for Funding”.
It will be hard to get grants with only 2 board members or keep our tax exempt status.
I have been working on the Proposal for Funding. It will take till next year, but it should include all the research so far up to date and all the information needed to spell out what we want to do and how. I will include a copy of what I have been working on. Proposal for Funding
One interesting idea is for the construction to have individual adult family homes built around the other apartments. It might be easy to get a license.
The Arc of Snohomish County has a monthly zoom meeting regarding Housing that I did not know about. Every third Thursday of the month.
I have given up on outreach for this year, so if anybody wants to step up and plan a picnic that would be nice. We have the money.
