We had a board meeting a couple of days ago. We decided to go ahead and cancel our contract with Dementia Village Associate (DVA). We feel that the information they would have given us mainly comes from us anyway and it will save us $30k, but we could have used their clout and special setups.
So at this point we will start the process of building their bid bok, and change the name to our “ Next Wave Housing Proposal” or just the “ Proposal”. This will take about a year to complete. It is a large project. This will involve a comprehensive estimate of recent costs: from land cost, building cost, size of building, cost per sqft. Also detailed information about what kind of supervision and care needed from DSHS to guide us with what we need to build. Estimate cost will also include current prices of apartments, from rent and buying. Also included in this Proposal will state how we want to pay for everything and how we expect to go forward. Basically it will include all the information we have accumulated over the past years and put it together in one booklet to go after sponsors.
We realize that this is a large complex project and will take many years to complete. We hope that we can complete this with your help. We are promoting this idea as a parent led non profit. It may be a wild endeavor, but the alternative is for our loved ones to live in an Adult family home or stay with their family or friends. We feel that these may be the best options for now, but if we put our heads together we can come up with a better one that includes permanent housing, stable caregivers, jobs and their own place.
We are presently looking for an Outreach Coordinator to boost our numbers up. We have about $2000 to invest in outreach.
We're also looking for a few more board members and some help with the proposal book. No experience necessary, only an interest to better our loved ones future. Presently I am learning how to estimate the size and cost of the project. If you want to learn or know something about estimating this would be a great project to practice with. The same for an architecture artist to get an idea of how the project might look.
There are a lot of pieces that anybody can do if they want to help. From land cost, rent and condos cost. This project is great for a retired person with a little free time, who thinks this project is worth the time. You don't have to be part of the board or officers, but instead be part of a working group. I only put in about 5-10 hours a week, and it seems like a slow process. But I don't push myself.
If you're interested in finding AI systems that we can use for the project and cost. I know they are out there. Maybe we can get Microsoft to donate a system to test market it?? Does anybody know someone or comfortable talking to DHSH about what would be the best building design to get DDA funds??
