Pyrrosia

Felt fern, Pyrrosia rupestris grows exclusively on rocks or on trees. During dry spells it can shrivel up but, as soon as the weather turns moist, it rehydrates within a few minutes. Plants that are able to desiccate and then rehydrate without being killed are called "resurrection plants" by botanists. This is because of their remarkable ability to come back to life after looking as if they are dead.

Here is felt fern growing on brush myrtle, Backhousia myrtifolia. Other trees it commonly grows on are sweet pittosporum Pittosporum undulatum and Maiden's wattle, Acacia maideni.
