Melicope

Euodia, Melicope micrococca, used to be known as Euodia micrococca. It's related to citrus, and tiny seedlings like the one opposite are similar to seedlings of the common citrus rootstock, Poncirus trifoliata. Those of the rootstock develop thorns which make it hazardous to pull out.

Euodia seeds seem to persist in the soil, because seedlings often pop up as soon as a thick mat of trad weed is cleared.
