Blechnum

Blechnum ambiguum is rare on our site, so these sporelings were raised from one of our plants. The heart-shaped fronds at this stage might be mistaken for an orchid of the genera Corybas and Acianthus.

Note the seedling at top left - it is a pencil cedar whose seed must have been deposited in the mulch pile used as compost for the ferns. Volunteer seedlings like that are common in this area, which is visited by birds from the neighbouring rainforest.
