Ochna

Ochna serrulata produces occasional seedlings in our regenerating forest, even though we haven't been able to find the mature shrub producing fruit.

It's well to get rid of it at an early stage, because this introduced weed from Africa develops a root that anchors the plant very securely. Presumably the seeds that produce our occasional plants are brought in by birds eating the black fruit.

Fortunately, it's an easily recognised plant because of its long serrated leaves.
