Clematis

Clematis aristata seedlings have characteristic white veins on heart- shaped leves. These hug the ground in a juvenile form that is distinct from the later climbing form. Subsequently, the plant sends out fine shoots that climb up other plants. In this adult form, the leaf stems (petioles) twist around plant stems that they contact. Like several other climbing plants, the adult leaves are different to the seedling ones.
