Flagellaria

The vine Flagellaria indica has sinuous bamboo-like stems that climb high into the rainforest canopy. It hangs on to other plants with tendrils at the tips of its leaves.

Young seedlings like the one shown don't yet have the tendrils. At this stage they produce a clump of small shoots. Their fleshy roots are fatally damaged if you try to transplant them - but it can be done if you keep a coherent sod of soil around the roots.
