Doryphora

Seedlings of sassafras, Doryphora sassafras, have opposite leaves that are toothed. The teeth are evenly spaced, unlike those of muttonwood which they might be confused with.

Sassafras trees often grow in groups, unlike many rainforest trees that tend to be solitary. It is the one of the hosts of a beautiful butterfly, Macleay's swallowtail.
