My service project supported Operation Christmas Child. I was able to collect donations from friends, neighborhoods, my parents' coworkers, and my grandparents' church. These donations included toiletries, flashlights, toys, water bottles, school supplies, accessories, socks, soccer balls, and pumps. Someone even donated $100 to help pay for the shipping costs. On Saturday, November 23, Maya Tilbury came to my house and helped me organize the donations into 12 boxes - 6 girls and 6 boys all 5-9 years old. We also drafted a letter, included our picture, and a self-addressed envelope in case the children would like to write back. On Monday, November 25, Maya helped me load the boxes and drop them off at Calvary Church.
The purpose of my project was to give Christmas presents to families in need. I put boxes filled with toys and necessities together. Then, I brought these boxes to an organization called Operation Christmas Child.
Looking back on this project, I am very happy that I chose it because it was very rewarding. Our boxes made it to children in the Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Giving back to the community is very important, and this project helped me do that.
