Project Description
For my service project I decided to contact a close family-friend who works at a title 1 school (Deerfield Beach Elementary). The kids attending this school are not as fortunate as others. An idea sparked into my mind. With the help of some friends, my mom, and the school; I was able to adopt the class of 20 students and create personalized stockings for each individual. We delivered them to the teacher who was then able to gift them to each child.
Purpose
This school is a title 1 school and the kids may not be as fortunate as us. We have the ability to spread the holiday and I want to take advantage of this. I think the kids would be so excited for this. Who knows if they get to celebrate the holidays with presents and a decorated house? This inspiration caught my eye because Christmas time to me is one of the happiest times of the year. I wanted to spread joy around and make sure they were granted with a special Christmas. The smiles of the children made my Christmas one I would never forget.
Reflection
This project helped me learn skills that will take me far in life. Skills like leadership, scholarship, citizenship, character, and service. During this project I was able to become a leader and take charge to help organize the drive for the stockings. With a list of gifts to fill the stockings, friends and family, and lots of support, we were able to make this project successful. By guiding others in putting together the stockings, I learned how to take charge. During this project I was really able to understand how fortunate we are. We are so blessed and I wanted to work to give these students a Christmas they would remember. This helped shape my character. I am so thankful for these opportunities to help our community and learn to take charge which will help shape my future and success.
