Project Description
Reiss Nelson and I have worked together to create a beginning band class. We helped students learn new notes, skills, and techniques to improve their abilities with their instruments. We performed at a laundry Matt called "Laundromax" to show what we have learned to others.
Purpose
For my service project I wanted to help new band players learn new skills and techniques to advance with their instruments. I helped them learn that if they put in a little bit of effort they can become an outstanding member of their band. They have not just developed new skills about their instrument, but also acquire new character traits. For example, they have gained character, leadership, citizenship, scholarship, and service. After 2 months of practice, we performed at a laundry matt. We played for less fortunate individuals who love music! I wanted the new band players to take place in a performance where they play for others. I can tell the band members felt good and accomplished after their performance. They put smiles on many people's faces. That was the goal of our project.
Reflection
As I taught the band the songs we were playing at the performance, I had to deal with stress. I also felt a bit overwhelmed. However, I learned that sometimes you have to take a step into an uncomfortable situation to gain leadership skills. now, I am not afraid to say what I believe and give someone feedback. It will benefit me as well as the person I am helping. Overall, I have gained new skills that can help me in the future. My heart felt whole when the less fortunate individuals said, "Thank you for taking time and coming to play for us. It means a lot. God bless you all." This statement made me feel fuzzy and warm inside because I know I just did something amazing that can affect the community.
