Christmas Tree Lighting Holiday Card Stand

By: Daniel

Project Description

My name is Daniel, and for my project, I set up a stand during the Tree Lighting event on Friday, December 9th. In this stand, people made Christmas cards that were sent to the Manor Oaks Elderly Facility. My goal for this project is to make the elders in the facility happy by getting so many Christmas cards that they know came from caring people. It will also keep the kids busy doing art during the Tree Lighting event.

Purpose

This project was meant to help the elderly held in the nursing home to feel more connected to their community. By having kids in the community write letters to the elderly who would otherwise have no contact with them, they would feel happier knowing that the kids took the time to appreciate them. By doing this project, I hoped to help raise the spirits of the elderly and make them feel more appreciated this Christmas.

Reflection

I learned lots about giving back to our community through caring and kind acts through this project. Even small things like Christmas cards can mean so much to other people. There were not any problems that came with doing this project. By doing this project, I was able to strengthen my traits of citizenship, leadership, and service. Citizenship is the trait of giving back to your community and being a good citizen, and I used this trait by doing something nice and purely for the benefit of others. I used leadership by leading little kids to come up and write letters to the nursery home, as well as getting helpers to help run my stand. Lastly, service was represented by making an activity to be done during the tree lighting event.
