Filling in on a show? Templates have been updated, so follow the template. Here are a few other tips from the show producer:
3:15AM: OVERNIGHT NEWS MEETING
4:00am/4:30am:
These are two different shows, with the same producer. Single anchor for the first half hour, double anchors at 4:30. Follow the rundown template. The 4:00 runs a "whip" (Read about that here) The 4:00 is allowed to run national packages of big stories, plus the business package and the FOX entertainment package. There are usually two liveshots in the 4:30 - one at 4:30 and one at 4:45. Sometimes we are live at 4:00 with breaking news. Drop headlines and go straight to the breaking news. (Unless we have active weather.)
After show: Check in with EP

Kerri does "Hollywood Headlines" in the F or G block.
Tell Me Something Good is always in the last block. Kim picks them, writes them and fronts them. If Kim is not here, Michelle will do it. If both are not here, the producer will have to do it.

9:00am:
Regular segments:

Guest segments -- look for newsmakers or local experts to discuss 'hot topics', write intro, questions & teases, create visual elements (VO, fullscreens, etc.), build/request special graphics for tag, send anchors a preview of the script so they can get familiar with the segment ahead of time.
Talkers -- create moments with unique talkers other shows have not had, can ask web for help with viewer feedback
Use all anchors as much as you can -- the 9am was designed to show them all. You can have specific anchors 'leading segments' but all should be involved

1:30PM: REPORTER SPLIT UPDATE FOR 5PM/6PM
2:00PM: AFTERNOON NEWS MEETING
5:00pm:
Make sure the 5pm newscast makes it to 5:58:30. We cannot hit the 1:00 break early.
6:00pm:
6pm producer writes a tease at the bottom of the 5pm rundown.
There's also a 6pm tease in the D block of the 5pm that Loren typically writes.
6pm producer should also make sure the H block of the 5pm is transferred to the top of the 6pm.
Also needs to make sure the 5pm newscast makes it to 5:58:30. We cannot hit the 1:00 break early.
9:00pm:
9pm doesn't write any topicals, unless Polly is out. They are generally written sometime around 6:00 p.m. Two :10 news topicals that are at the top of the 9pm rundown. During Weather Aware, a met can be asked to do one or both of these if appropriate.
9pm does write an in-show New at 9 tease that airs in the last block of the 6pm. That usually gets written after our content split meeting, around 5:45 or 6:00p.
No regular segments.
No real special instructions for a fill-in producer. The reporter split will almost always have at least one New at 10 reporter, so I would wait for the content split before getting too far ahead of stacking the A-block.
Note: there is not a 9:45 weather, unless it is requested - except - on Thursdays. Thursday we do a "Lake Report" at 9:45. It runs from the Thursday before Memorial Day weekend to the Thursday before Labor Day weekend.
10:00pm:
We no longer go seamless from the 9 to the 10pm. There's now a 1-minute terminal break.
The 10 should start at 9:59:30. So, the 9 needs to end at 9:58:30.
Make sure the last segment of the 9pm gets moved over to the top of the 10 rundown.
There's a New at 10/Ahead at 10 tease that airs approx. 9:40 and 3 vo teases that air at the very end of the 9.
Loren fronts these live. Loren or Polly usually write these. If they're both out, the producer will need to write them.
Include local news, as well as national/int'l, in the 10:30 half, as possible.
The meeting to divide reporter stories begins anytime from 5:30 - 6:00, depending on how busy things are with the 5 and 6 each day.
WEEKEND AM:
10:30AM: WEEKEND MORNING MEETING
WEEKEND EARLY SHOWS:
SATURDAY:
One :10 topical for the 9pm show, One :10 topical for the 10pm show. Recorded right after the 6pm show. There is a tease in the 5pm & 6pm newscast that needs to be written. It teases both 9 and 10pm.
SUNDAY:
Promos are recorded after the 5pm. A :10 for 9pm, and a :10 for 10pm.
2:30PM: WEEKEND AFTERNOON MEETING
WEEKEND EVENING SHOWS:
SATURDAY:
A "Most Wanted" pkg runs in the G block. Police send the list of fugitives on Wednesday. Cindy normally picks an unsolved case to profile before getting to the fugitives. She will try to have this written for the fill-in producer.
SUNDAY:
If "Most Wanted" was dropped Saturday, it can run in the G block of the 9pm.
The producer needs to make sure the sponsor is clicked in the Sports Sunday Ticker for 10:30 - 11:00pm.
Then after the newscast ends, unclick the sponsorship, because the ticker airs without the sponsorship in the 11pm sports show.
Note: 11pm Sports on Sundays
