Security Procedures
· Suspicious People
o If your see someone suspicious or who you are not familiar with on property, do NOT approach them alone. If you are with another person and only IF you feel safe, approach the person and ask if you can help them. Don’t be confrontational. If you are unsure, tell them you will check on whatever issue they say they have and excuse yourself. Notify a Manager or the Engineer in Charge.
· Trespassers
o If someone clearly doesn’t belong here, do not confront them. Tell a Manager or the Engineer in Charge who will determine a next step.
· Threats
o If you become aware of a threat against the station or any of the people who work here, either through a phone call, social media post, e-mail or letter, immediately let a manager know. Record as much information as possible, including phone number and any specific words used in the threat. Preserve any physical material such as envelopes or wrapping.
· Notifications
o PA Announcement
§ If there is a situation at our front entrance, please use the following pages:
· “Mr. Summit, come to the front desk.” That means our employee at the desk needs immediate assistance.
· “Mr. Summit, call on hold” That means to stay away from the front desk.
· If the threat is not inside, just be direct and tell people to stay away from wherever the situation is.
o Calling Police
§ In instances where the emergency is immediate, any employee should call 911 to report it. Let a manager know after you’ve made the call.
§ In situations that may not be a sudden emergency, please notify a manager and have them call 911.
o Internal Notifications
§ If there is a situation at our building and crews and arriving or departing employees need to be aware, managers will send out an e-mail alert.
· Personal safety
o Please park in the secured lot behind the building, especially during nighttime and early morning hours.
o If possible, consider walking out during overnight hours with another employee.
· Don’t let people in behind you if you don’t know them. Many times people will try to follow someone into a building or secure area. If you don’t know them, make sure the door closes behind you and tell them to use the phone to call for assistance.
