The Managing Editor or Executive Producer will take the lead in meetings, and the meetings will follow a regular order that reflects our coverage priorities:
Weather
Digital
WHO HAS A LEAD?
WHO HAS A WORKING FOR YOU STORY?
Reporter and MMJ pitches
Scheduled News of the Day
Television Assignments
Digital Assignments – live streams, digital expectations, etc.
Tentative show split (For producers & managers. Reporters and MMJ’s should be starting on their stories)
There is no order to reporter pitches. Be ready to present right off the get-go.
Please keep your pitches concise. Think of the story pitch as a tweet. Grab the meeting’s attention with your pitch.
Come to the meeting with viable, vetted and actionable story ideas. Have answers to most of these questions before you make your pitch.
Can this story lead? Is this one of the most interesting and important stories in our communities today? How is it "Working for You"?
Who will talk with you – ON CAMERA?
Who are the voices in the story?
What are the visuals – video and pictures? What does this story look like on TV?
Why do our target viewers (adults 25-54; especially women 25-54) want to watch this story. If you had to make someone click on the story in a social media post, what would you write to get them to click?
Social media is helpful for story ideas, but those posts need to be checked out before you pitch them.
Make sure you’ve WATCHED our newscasts and don’t repeatedly pitch a story we’ve already covered unless you can advance it. And if you miss some newscasts, use our website and social media channels to get up to speed BEFORE the news meetings. Sign up for FOX4 push alerts from the news app!
The morning meetings set the tone for our day, and we need to start out with energy and sharp focus.
