high school summer program
design thinking exercises
this course introduced students to the ideas, principals and methods used when designing a space. using varied and rapid design exercises, student developed their awareness and understanding of architectural concepts, design processes, and representation; explored the interrelated, cyclical architectural process of "making and drawing". like architects, students drew or represented concepts so that when finished, those concepts can be experienced; they engaged in both drawing and making--sometimes students drew and then re-made, other times they made and then drew. their drawings transcribe thoughts onto a page which, in turn, informs thoughts. it is a kind of dialogue with unexpected diversions, feedback, and conclusions. the course was distinctly analog: they engaged with materials and drawing equipment so that they understand the physical material spatial conditions.
