research and schematic design for studio 27 architecture
awarded virginia society's design excellence award
this prototypical mass-produced house addressed the economic and environmental benefits of pre-fab construction in urban settings. rather than isolated objects, the houses were designed for small scale, existing neighborhood fabrics such as arlington, virginia or university park, maryland. the house incorporated mass-customization, wet-core modular construction, sips construction and other prefabricated elements.
my involvement in the project included technological and fabrication research, schematic design and preliminary construction documents. a small team then developed a series of houses to meet varied demographics as well as a preliminary advertising campaign and a proposal for internet ordering.
