the design of this guest suite, that opened at grade on an existing patio, focused on maximums and minimums: maximizing the clear open space within the guest area and minimizing utilitarian service spaces. we did this by keeping the bathroom and closets alongside and within the existing stair "zone". this zone would include closets, washer/dryer, utility sink, bathrooms, and storage. we also made two distinct areas in the utility areas: a storage area (around the hvac unit) and a work space near the washer and dryer.
