contemporary practices is a second-semester, first year experience course at MICA that takes the material and practical skills learned in high school or first semester drawing courses and combines them with conceptual thinking and personal expression in an environment in which students can explore and experiment with finding their personal voice. a primary conceptual and practical overlay is spatial or volumetric drawing. students are exposed to historical precedents and the uses of drawing in contemporary art in order to provide context for the practice of making and crafting images. critiques will develop critical thinking, rhetorical skills, and the ability to articulate your thoughts about art.
