precincts union market

urban practice studio:

union market food hub (co-taught with erin estep)

working with the architectural firm ayers saint gross students designed a master plan that built upon the market and neighborhoods' unique qualities yet maintained the financial viability of the more traditional development ideas proposed for the site.

they re-imagined it as a “food hub” supported by a multi-acre urban farm. the plan builds off of union market’s success with its rooftop garden and individual students proposed maker spaces, affordable housing, local brewery, performance theater and a recycling center. the site would remain raw and hyper-local.

students then “fleshed out” the master plan with individual architectural projects including a recycling center, new wholesale market hall, brewery and mixed-income housing.
