The Design Space has come with a slew of fonts, it is true. And if you have a Cricut Access subscription, you’ve also more font options at your fingertips. But sometimes, you have to find that perfect font elsewhere. And if you can use downloaded fonts in the Cricut projects, you need to know how to add them to the Design Space. Do not worry; it is effortless. This article will show you how to upload fonts to the Cricut design space so that your projects have that special individual touch.
This guide takes every guesswork of adding new fonts in the Cricut Design Space and breaks it down into four simple steps to start using their favorite fonts. To use a new font in the Design Space, you need to download the font and install it on a computer. Once it’s available, you can use it in your craft projects.
There are many sites to find paid and free fonts to download. For example, you can find free fonts on fonts.google.com and dafont.com. Creative Market and Creative Fabrica are my favorite websites for finding beautiful, high-quality fonts.
Most free font downloads have come with an individual use license, which means you can use it for free in personal projects. On the other hand, if you want to sell products you’ve created with a specific font, ensure the font has a commercial use license.
Some fonts are more accessible to cut than others. When choosing fonts to download, look for fonts with smooth, solid edges. Think twice about using sketch fonts, brush fonts, or fonts with a lot of texture. Your crickets will thank you and reward you with sharp, clean cuts.

While I like the second font, your Cricut blade will take a long time to make all the turns and pivots needed to cut its rough edges.
Most fonts you download will be one of two file types: a .ttf file or an .otf file. While OTF fonts have more advanced features, such as special characters and embellishments, they’re more common in fonts with less advanced features. If you have the option, install the .otf file. If you only have a .ttf file, it will work fine.
Here are the simple step-by-step guidelines for downloading a new font and accessing it within the Cricut Design Space.
First, download the font you want to use. Make a note of which folder the font file is downloaded to.
Unzip the font file folder. Double-tap on the individual font file. (Most font files end in .ttf or .otf – I recommend installing the .otf file.) Follow the prompts on a computer to install the font file.
Once the font is installed, open the Cricut Design Space. (If the Design Space is already open, you need to close it and reopen it.)
Choose the Text tool to add a new text box to Canvas. Then, press on the Font drop-down menu in the top toolbar to change the font.
Tip: You can search for your font by typing in the font’s name. You can also click the “System” filter to show all fonts installed on your computer.
Note: We talk about “uploading” fonts in the Design Space, which is misleading. You see, the Design Space only accesses fonts that you’ve already installed on a computer (that’s why they are called System fonts). I am teaching you how to install fonts on a computer and access them within the Design Space.
If you need the same font to be available on all devices (phone, computer, tablet), you’ll need to download and install the font on each device. There is currently no method to upload and store a font within the Design Space, as with pictures.
