4 Ways To Take A Screenshot On Your MacBook

Apple is very common these days on every hand, I guess. Whether it’s your phone or any gadget or any accessory related to the same, we all are pretty much aware of the brand. Nevertheless, talking about one step ahead is MacBook, a next-generation smart multipurpose laptop. Then the question comes, which is the best MacBook to buy? The MacBook comes in three types: MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, and iMac. All three work on the same operating system macOS and are smooth to use. Talking about the MacBook Pro, it comes in three variants:

  1. MacBook Pro 13”

  2. MacBook Pro 14”

  3. MacBook Pro 16”

All the above options are worth it, depending upon the type of work and your pocket. MacBook 13” comes with an 8-core processor while both the MacBook 14” & 16” comes with 10 core processors, and hence there is a slight change of the display, battery life, camera, and weight.

Then comes the MacBook Air; as the name says, it’s as lightweight as air. Thinnest, lightest, and have the longest battery backup with custom design, outstanding performance, and power leading efficiency with an additional battery backup of 6 hours.

The last one is the iMac; the only thing that makes it different from the above two MacBooks is its unique design and stationary work set up. iMac is a desktop set-up, so it’s not easily portable. Depending on the purpose and usage, one can easily go for the MacBook they want.

Screenshot as an Essential Skill

The most common way to capture any of the photos or videos or documents in your phone or laptop is simply taking a screenshot of the same. It’s very easy to take it on your mobiles, but many of us are confused when it comes to our laptops. Heading towards the MacBook, you can use up to three ways to capture the moments with keyboard shortcuts. The MacBook with a touch bar adds the fourth method for you to take a snapshot. In this guide, we’ll be discussing these shortcuts. So, let’s walk in the journey of learning and capturing the moments.

Method 1: Command-Shift-3

The above command is the easiest way to capture your whole screen in one go. This keyboard shortcut saves the screenshot of your entire screen. Following the above method, if you see a thumbnail in the corner of your screen, just wait for a moment to save or click on it to edit your capture. In case you fail to capture, make sure the checkboxes are checked in the right panel for a better experience, and if it’s checked, I suggest you opt for the logging out option and re-login to make things work.

Method 2: Command-Shift-4

The second method you can use is to turn your cursor in a crosshair, just to select the portion of your screen to capture, then simply release the mouse button or trackpad to take the perfect shot. You can also use other options after the above process:

Press and release the space bar: By doing so, the crosshair turns into a little camera icon which you can move over the desired window to take your snap. The screenshot captured by this method appears with a white border with a bit of a drop shadow.

Press and hold the spacebar: Following this way, you can lock the shape and size of the area, but you have to reposition it on your screen. It’s convenient to use if the selected area is off by a few pixels. All you need is to hold on to the space bar to reposition it before releasing the mouse button to take the screenshot.

Hold down the Shift key: All it does is lock the selection area to save the bottom edge made with a crosshair that helps you to move your mouse up and down to position the bottom edge as per your convenience. If you want to reposition the right edge of your selection area, just release the shift key without releasing the mouse button.

Method 3: Shift-Command-5

This method was introduced in 2018 in macOS Mojave appears as a small panel at the bottom of your screen capture options with three capturing options to capture the entire screen, a window, or a selection of your screen.

In the same way, video-recording buttons allow you to capture the whole screen or the selection. In order to close the screenshot panel, there is an X button to the left of the screen, or you can simply use the Esc key to engage out. Talking about the saving options, there is an options button that allows you to save your screenshot in your desired location to the right side.

Sometimes it happens; the Show Floating Thumbnail option is enabled, which puts the record of your last captured screenshot in the lower right corner; you can turn off this preview thumbnail on your Mac. Lastly, you can catch the screenshot by showing your mouse pointer.

Touch Bar MacBooks as an additional bonus

A MacBook with a touch bar, as in the 16 inches MacBook Pro, adds an additional benefit. Let me ask how many of you are aware that you can capture what’s currently showing in your Touch Bar? All you need is to hit Command-Shift-6 to take a sleek and wide screenshot of your Touch Bar.

Easy Hypothesis

You’ll gain quick access to Markup tools to annotate your screenshot by embracing the Floating.

Thumbnail. You can simply swipe the Floating Thumbnail or just let it slip away on its own; it’ll automatically save your current screenshot to the last saved location. In order to preview Markup tools, simply click on the Floating Thumbnail, and the Markup Preview Window will open.

Uses of Right Clicking the Floating Thumbnail:

  • Save the screenshot to your desktop, Document folder, or clipboard.

  • Open it in the Mail, Messages, or Preview window discussed above.

  • Show in Finder

  • Delete

  • Open in the Markup Preview window as described

  • Close and save

We all have the habit of capturing things, whether it is our essential documents or normal vacation pictures. But when it comes to MacBooks, screenshotters might be slow to adopt the new Command-Shift-5 shortcut, but it annotates screenshots without opening Preview, and when most of the screenshots are messed up, it helps quickly delete it. Timer option of 5 and 10- seconds delay is also an appreciable addition and makes it better.
