I was thrilled when my new Cricut Maker 4 finally arrived. While unboxing it, I felt like I was stepping into a whole new creative world, especially since I was only familiar with basic cutting tools. However, that excitement quickly turned into confusion – I had no idea where to begin.
If you have just unboxed your Cricut Maker 4 and feel the same way, don’t worry, you’re not alone. After watching countless late-night YouTube tutorials, I decided to create this simple, step-by-step guide for beginners like you.
Whether you’re working on your first DIY project or planning to use the Cricut machine for your small business, this blog will walk you through the entire setup process with clarity and ease. Let’s get crafting!
To setup your new Cricut Maker 4 and start crafting, you need to first download the Cricut Design Space Software by visiting the official website, Create a Cricut ID, and then connect it via USB or Bluetooth.
Choose a clear, flat surface where you can place your crafting machine.
Plug the power cord into the back of the machine and then into a power outlet.
Power on the machine by pressing the power button. You’ll hear a sound, and the carriage will move back and forth a bit.
Go to cricut.com/setup in your web browser.
On the following screen, enter your Cricut machine model name.
After that, agree to the Cricut terms of use and privacy policy and select the checkbox.
Now, download and install the Cricut Design Space Software onto your computer; this process may take a few minutes.
Once downloaded, locate the installation file, which you can find in the Downloads folder, and double-click to run it.
Launch the ‘Cricut Design Space Application‘ once installation is complete.
When you open Cricut Design Space Application, it will ask you to either log in with an existing ID or create a new one.
If you’re a first-time user, create a free account by following the on-screen instructions.
If you already have an account, log in with your credentials.
When it comes to connection, you have two options: either USB or Bluetooth.
Method 1: Wired USB Connection
Power on your crafting machine and computer.
Plug one end of your provided USB cord into your machine and the other into your computer.
Once connected, you’re ready to use your Cricut machine.
Note: This method doesn’t require any distance maintenance like the Bluetooth method.
Method 2: Wireless Bluetooth Connection
Turn on your machine so that it will be ready to connect.
Ensure your computer has Bluetooth functionality and enable it.
If your computer doesn’t have built-in Bluetooth, you’ll need a Bluetooth adapter.
Go to the Settings tab on your computer.
After that, navigate to the Devices section.
Next, select Bluetooth & other devices.
Ensure your Bluetooth is toggled on in the settings.
Click on “Add Bluetooth or other device” (on Windows) or “Add Device” (on Mac).
Then, choose the Bluetooth option from the list of device types.
Now, your computer will begin searching for nearby Bluetooth devices.
Select your Cricut machine model from the list and click Connect.
If prompted, enter the PIN (usually 0000).
You may be prompted to perform a test cut. This helps verify that your machine is working correctly and the setup is complete.
Once you’ve completed the entire Cricut machine setup within Cricut Design Space, your machine will be automatically registered to your account.
When setting up your Cricut Maker 4, you might encounter issues. I’ve broken down the common problems and how to resolve them:
Unpair and re-pair your machine, then restart both your machine and computer. This often fixes temporary software glitches.
Plug your machine into a working power outlet using the power cord that came with the machine and ensure that you turn on the switch.
Verify the USB cable is properly connected to both the machine and your computer.
If the USB connection fails, try using a different cable or port to rule out hardware issues.
If using Bluetooth, ensure it’s enabled on both your crafting machine and computer.
Verify for any obstructions in the cutting path of the machine, such as debris or objects that may interfere with the blade or carriage movement.
Make sure you have the latest version of Cricut Design Space because updating the software is necessary.
Close any unnecessary tabs or programs, as they can interfere with Cricut Design Space.
Make sure both Cricut Design Space and the machine’s firmware are up to date.
First, turn on your machine and make sure it’s within a reasonable distance (10-15 feet) from your operating device, whether computer or mobile device, and follow the instructions below:
Open the Bluetooth settings on your computer (Windows or Mac) or mobile device (iOS or Android).
Enable Bluetooth on your device’s settings.
Within the list of available devices, find and select your Cricut Machine Model.
If prompted, enter the PIN code (0000) to pair your Cricut Crafting Machine.
Once paired, your machine will list as connected in your Bluetooth settings.
A machine’s inability to read cut sensor marks can stem from various factors. These include improper mat placement, material defects (like wrinkles, smudges, or reflective surfaces), or issues with the Cricut machine itself. Ensure the following points:
Calibration issues or even a need to clean the Cricut machine’s sensors can also be contributing factors.
Strong lighting can reflect off glossy surfaces and confuse the sensor. Try closing the Cricut machine lid or reducing ambient light.
Dust or debris on the sensors can affect their ability to read marks. Clean Sensors using compressed air or a microfiber cloth.
You can proceed with the following steps to setup your machine on a Mac:
Open your web browser and type Cricut.com/setup.
Click on Download and then wait for the download process to complete.
Now, open the downloaded file, then drag the Cricut Design Space icon into the Applications folder. Double-click on the Cricut Design Space file and click Open.
After that, click Product Setup and select Smart Cutting Machine.
Select your machine and fill in the form to create a Cricut ID. If you already have an account, then sign in directly.
It can stop working because of the following factors:
Due to an outdated version of Cricut Design Space.
Due to some interference in third-party software.
An unstable internet connection can cause the software to malfunction.
An outdated operating system and insufficient memory can also cause problems.
In some cases, a session can time out, leading to an error message instead of a prompt to log in again.
