Bubblegum Squid

Orgionally for this peice I wanted to do an octopuse with varuous circle designs, however I decided to make a more realistic looking squid. When we were given the assignment I knew that I wanted to create something with a sea animal. after making the shape and size of the clay I though that a squid with some bubbles would look really cool.

To make this piece of artwork I used clay, various different kinds of paint, and carving tools to carve out my design. We also used a kilm to complete the piece.

Orginally I started out on scratch board with a sketch of a cartoon looking actopuse, however I decide that I wanted to do a realistic squid instead. I formed a circular shape out of clay with my hands and let it dry. Once it was dry I began painting on blue paint. After three cotes of that I traced on my new design of a squid. I then began carving. After I carved out my design I paainted on a pink paint as a finishing cote. After it was pulled out of the kilm the pink paint didn't turn clear like it was supposed to, and my peice got ruined. I'm not quite sure what I did wrong but next time I plan on being way more careful with all of the steps taken to create a clay piece.
