Assemblage

For this assignment, I was told to create a sculpture made out of any recycled material. When I thought of things that were recycled I thought of the ocean which gave me the idea to create a sea animal. I thought that it would be cool to use cardboard to create the sculpture and tissue paper to add color and texture to it.

To make this sculpture I used cardboard to create the body of the whale and I used crumpled up tissue paper to add color and texture. in order to secure the various pieces together, I used glue.

I started out with the idea of using recycled cardboard for the sculpture because it was something that I had never used before in art and I thought that it would make a good structurely sound piece. From there I thought about my favorite sea animal, which is a whale, and I began tracing it onto a piece of paper. once that was done I cut out the design and began tracing it onto the cardboard and then cutting it out. From there I took different blue tissue paper and crumpled them up and then glued them onto the cardboard pieces. I did this because I thought that it would be a fun way to add color and texture to my design. Once that was finished I began assembling the cardboard pieces together with glue until I liked how it looked.
