Artist Research

For this assignment I was instructed to research old ancheint ceramic pots and then try to recreate it to the best of my ability using the coil technique. To make this vase I used a hand powered machine to create the coiled clay pieces as well as glaze.

To create this vase I started out by using a hand powered machien o turn blocks of clay into coils of clay that I then stacked and smothed together to create a sturdy strucuter. Once all of the coils were on it was put through the kiln, glazed and designed, and then put back into the kiln to be fired.

My vase was supposed to be slightly taller and a little bit of a different shape at the top, however I wasn't able to finish it. With this project, even though it didn't cone out how I had planned, I really liked the overall look and finsih of my vase. I enjoyed creating this piece using the coil technique because it was a very quick and easy way to make a large sturdy object. I'm really proud of how my piece turned out and I think that it is a good representation of my understanding for this concept.
