Personal Bio

My name is Yuping Zheng. I was born and raised in China. I received my bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering from Dalian University of Technology and started my PhD journey in the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities from Fall, 2020.

In my spare time, I like reading, baking and doing sports. I am enthusiastic about all kinds of outdoor activities, especially running and biking and I am always willing to learn new sports. For baking, I like to do experiments about bread making and I keep the sourdough starter as my little pet in the fridge.

Professional Bio

I will be a second-year PhD in Electrical Engineering this fall. I am supervised by Prof. Andrew Lamperski. My research interest is centered around the optimization method for stochastic systems. I am currently working on developing proper algorithms for the non-convex optimization problem with time-correlated external data. This research has the potential to be utilized in the area of optimal control, machine learning and others. I am excited to explore the scientific world and have a strong curiosity for the unknown. I want to apply my theoretical research to the astrophysics field and improve my hands-on skills by joining this special program.
