Bonnabelle Zabelle

Bonnabelle Zabelle (She, They)

Astrophysics PhD

Professional Bio

Bonnabelle is a 2nd year graduate student in the Astrophysics program. She works in Claudia Scarlata's group in studying extragalactic evolution and the Epoch of Reionization. Currently her research focuses on Lyman continuum galaxies (LCG) and observations from the upcoming Euclid space telescope. In the past year she has been observing and analyzing a selection of LCG to help test photometric selection methods, as well as determine the properties of the escaping radiation from these galaxies. This work ties into the larger effort in astrophysics to constrain how the universe evolved in the Epoch of Reionization. She has worked on Euclid for just over two years, working with the observation systematics group to create tools for predicting the performance of the upcoming telescope. Her future work will involve analysing the wonderful deluge of data to come from Euclid.

Personal Bio

Bonnabelle was born in Minnesota and raised in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. She moved back for her undergrad at the University of Minnesota and immediately fell in love with Astrophysics, obtaining a B.S. in the field. In her free time Bonnabelle enjoys reading, coding, and playing video games such as Celeste and Dark Souls. She spends a majority of weekends birding in the local parks of Minneapolis, and going to the local queer coffee shops. Bonnabelle is also an avid supporter of trans and general civil rights, living proudly and loudly as a trans woman.
