You are invited to the Tiffin Orchestras and Bands Concert at 7:00pm on Tuesday 10th March 2020 at St. John’s Smith Square, Westminster, SW1P 3HA. This is an opportunity to hear Tiffin’s orchestras and bands, including the Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, String Orchestra, Swing Band, Wind Band and Brass Band, give some of their finest performances of the year at one of the city’s celebrated concert halls. The concert will end at approximately 9:00pm, at which time performers are encouraged to travel home with their parents.
Tickets, priced at £10 (concessions £8), are available on the door, in advance by telephone 020 7222 1061, and online https://www.sjss.org.uk/events/tiffin-school-orchestras-and-bands (booking fees £2.75 by telephone/£1.75 online) from St John’s Smith Square.
Pupils who are members of these orchestras and bands require permission from their parent/guardian please to participate. Parents are asked to complete the online permission form please no later than Tuesday 3rd March 2020. The online permission form can be found here:

On the day of the concert, performers will require please:
- An oyster/zip travel card suitable for travel to central London.
- A packed meal (on arrival, pupils in Y7-9 may not leave the building until the end of the concert).
- Full school uniform as follows: Y7-11 full school uniform / Y12-13 boys dark suit, white shirt, school tie / Y12-13 girls smart black clothing.
- Their musical instrument (double basses, percussion and sheet music will be transported separately with other equipment).

- 1:50pm Y7-11 Performers register in Walden Hall and walk to Kingston station.
- 1:50pm Y12-13 performers travel independently to St John’s Smith Square.
- 2:18pm Train from Kingston to Vauxhall, walk to St. John’s Smith Square SW1P 3HA
- 3:30-6:00pm Final rehearsals for each ensemble:
- 3:30-4:00pm School Orchestra final rehearsal
- 4:00-4:20pm String Orchestra final rehearsal
- 4:20-4:40pm Wind Band final rehearsal
- 4:40-5:00pm Brass Band final rehearsal
- 5:00-5:30pm Chamber Orchestra final rehearsal
- 5:30-6:00pm Swing Band final rehearsal
When not rehearsing: Y7-9 pupils remain in the green room, where they may eat their packed meal, or in the auditorium, where they may complete homework and listen to other ensembles rehearse. Y10-13 pupils may sign out and leave the building in groups no smaller than three.
- 6:30pm Doors open to audience members
- 7:00pm Concert begins. Programme: Chamber Orchestra, Wind Band, Brass Band, String Orchestra, Swing Band, Interval (20 mins), Symphony Orchestra
When not performing, pupils remain seated in gallery.
- 9:00pm approx. Concert ends. Y12-13 performers clear stage and load equipment.
- 9:00-9:15pm Pupils travel home with parents/independently
- 9:15pm Pupils unable to travel home with parents/independently, walk to Vauxhall station with school staff.
- 9:30pm approx. Train from Vauxhall to Kingston.
- 10:00pm Remaining pupils collected by parents from Tiffin, Birkenhead Avenue.
