Invitation to perform a solo at the Christmas Jazz Evening, 7pm Tuesday 12th December 2023, Main Hall 

 You are invited to perform a vocal or instrumental solo at the Christmas Jazz Evening (details below). Although titled ‘jazz’ evening, your chosen piece may be jazz, musical theatre, a pop ballad or any similar pop style. If you are taking / have taken a singing exam, it is likely that one or more of your pieces are suitable. 

 

Pupils who are interested in performing a solo are invited to attend a music clinic with a copy of the piano sheet music to rehearse their song. Music clinics normally take place at the following times:

On the day of the performance soloists will attend a final rehearsal at 6pm.  

 

A microphone and PA will be provided, and soloists will be accompanied by piano or jazz trio (piano, bass, drums) depending on the rehearsal time available. Pupils will be included in the programme on a first-come first-served basis, so you encouraged to attend a rehearsal soon to avoid disappointment. 

  

Christmas Jazz Evening, 7pm Tuesday 12th December 2023, Main Hall 

 You are invited to the Christmas Jazz Evening taking place at 7pm on Tuesday 12th December in the Main Hall at Tiffin School. Pupils, family and friends are welcome to attend this event at which seating will be unreserved and no ticket will be required to enter. It is anticipated that the Tiffin School Concert Band, Jazz Combo, Tiffinians Acapella and soloists will perform. The performance will be informal, with café style seating and a bar provided by the Friends of Tiffin Music. You are welcome to bring food. All are welcome to attend this event, which will end at approximately 8:15pm.  

  

Information for performers  

On the day of the performance there will be a brief final rehearsal for performers as follows. After their rehearsal, pupils are encouraged to travel home and return to school in time for the concert. Should pupils need to remain at school when they are not rehearsing, they will require a packed tea and, between rehearsals, will be asked to remain in Room 88 (where pupils may complete homework or eat cold food). As the school does not employ a professional stage crew, after the performance, all performers will be asked to assist in returning the equipment used by their ensembles to the Music Department. The timetable on the day of the concert will be as follows:  

  

Tuesday 12th December 2023  

1pm Lessons end early due to Y12 parent consultations 

1-1:30pm Final Concert Band rehearsal, Main Hall  

1:30-2pm Final Jazz Combo rehearsal, Main Hall  

6-6:30pm Final Soloists’ Rehearsal  

6:45pm Pupils place belongings in Green Room: Room 19  

7pm Performances begin  

*Pupils take a seat in the Main Hall and support the other performers as audience members.  

*During the item preceding their own performance, pupils collect their instrument and sheet music from the Green Room and wait in the corridor.   

Programme  

1. Jazz Combo, 2. Soloists, 3. Tiffinians Acapella, 4. Concert Band  

8:15pm approx. Performances end. All band members assist in the return of musical equipment to the Walden Hall and music studio.
