This yearbook is proudly presented to you by Sinarmas World Academy in its 2021-2022 edition, and along with it you will see more than pictures of students and teachers. The cover of this year’s yearbook was designed by SWA Grade 10 student K. Dio Lalas, titled “Back to school” with the “new normal” in play. In many ways, it represents the happy feeling we all have by being able to return to our beautiful campus. The yearbook presents to you a summary of what this past school year represented to our community in terms of learning and life experiences.
The academic year started in the same way we ended last year: the school was closed, students and teachers were still having classes remotely. Suddenly in September, a small light came up at the end of the tunnel and our campus was reopened for us to welcome the students back to school after 19 months of remote learning. It was very exciting and if we would choose a word to describe how all our community felt, this word would certainly be HOPE. We started the year with the great news of one more perfect IB score of 45/45 from Sarah and the amazing amount of scholarships offered to the graduating class of 2021 and hopes for even better results of the class of 2022.
These news set the scene for our community to have hopes for better days, hopes that the pandemic would slow down or even reduce its negative impact on our lives. The world vaccination campaigns were moving forward and faster and SWA became part of this global anti Covid task force by hosting several rounds of vaccinations on campus. It was the right time for all the community to ride a wave of positivity together.
On the flip side, one big thing for our community had to deal with this year was mental health. The world has been talking about the tolls of the pandemic over people’s mental health and it was not different here at SWA. The PSD team never worked so hard in providing emotional support to students and parents. With all the remote learning scenario, new words and expressions came to existence or became very popular, such as “onlining”, “hybrid learning”, “zoom fatigue”, “screen time”, “WFH” (work from home), “online learning”, “offline learning”, “staycation” and many others.
Despite all the odds, our students continued their journey of success and achievements by participating in various competitions and events, which are all portrayed in this yearbook. We are very proud of the graduating class of 2022 and how successfully they overcame all the difficulties and challenges. They demonstrated grit, growth mindset and a lot of giving in their senior year. Every time the seniors came to campus for classes, IAs, meetings and for their graduation pictures, they brought us great joy and happiness.
