Grade 4
“Mr. Marc, why do we have so much homework? And why can’t we play a learning game every class?” What better place to begin describing these thirteen Grade 4 students than an example of them asking questions–the origin of integrity. Grade 4 students have been vocal, engaged, and inquisitive. In the pursuit of truth, excellence, and balance, Grade 4 students have regularly articulated their joys, concerns, and gripes. This has led them to respectfully share their opinions and solutions related to school life: scheduling (e.g., they petitioned for longer recess), homework (e.g., they asked teachers directly for less homework, especially considering that they spend a full day online), and more engagement during class (e.g., they recommended having online breakout groups to work on class assignments). The pandemic is an obstacle in life and one that Grade 4 students have dealt with admirably through resilience, questioning, and solutions.
