"Embracing Your True Self, to Give Your Best to the World" was the theme of this year's ES End of Semester 1 Celebration. The Ugly Duckling story was taken as the storyline for the celebration. The baby Swan hatched in the family of ducks and was considered ugly because he's different. The pandemic has forced all of us to be learning remotely from home. For many of us, it has been an overwhelming and ugly condition. But like the little Ugly Duckling who could finally find his best self, we need to find our true beauty in each and every situation that might come. Even if it is not the situation like we all wanted it to be. It needs time to be able to accept our different situations, but after we are able to accept, then we can give our best to the world.
The event was an automatic running kind of a program. Performances came in between the readings, and everything was done remotely. Performances were pre-recorded and pre-edited. Grade 1 to Grade 5 students took their turns in reading the story as storytellers as well as performers. It was an enjoyable event to be enjoyed together to celebrate the process of learning and to celebrate the birth of the new hopes of a better future.
