ES students are always excited to attend the ICT/robotics classes. Exploring different tools and apps made them more involved in learning computer technology and how they can use it. Especially in this time of the pandemic, kids have to attend their classes online most of the time.
The lessons were adapted to make sure it fits the needs of the pupils. The lessons focused on the tools being used in the online classroom and intermediate to advance topics to develop their higher-order thinking skills.
Though the kids were really ecstatic and fascinated with technology, there were still some challenges we cannot avoid. These challenges helped us, teachers, parents, and students, to understand situations and identify what has to be adjusted and adopt a strategy that will make sure the learning will take place.
It has been a challenging year for the G4 students, who learnt word processing, how to use spreadsheets to organize data, and how to create web pages with HTML. It was an interesting challenge working online for the first semester, but it was terrific to finally (if briefly) meet many of the class for the first time in a face-to-face setting in Term 3.
Grade 5 students were gradually introduced to text-based programming- first creating a ‘Sorting Hat’ using Scratch, before recreating the same program using Python. The students later learnt about how to represent systems using flowcharts, and how to create simulations of these systems using Scratch. It has been an interesting time - but the intrepid members of Grade 5 have always faced the challenges with smiles on their faces.
