Thoughtful Portrait

Ella

I’m calling this project, Ella because that is the name of the little girl in the photo.

The subject is a thoughtful portrait based on a little girl looking at someone that is outside of the photo. I chose to create this specific work because while I was at this wedding I wanted to get good photos of the daughter as well. For materials, I used my camera and my cousin Ella.

I used a variety of techniques and methods including portrait photography. While creating this work, I paid close attention to just Ella by using selective focus. I wanted my artwork to look like Ella was looking at someone/something and I did that by taking the photo while she was looking at someone/something. To add interest to my composition, I used seriousness in my photo by adding a black and white filter. I like the way this came out and how she is looking at whoever/whatever was outside of the frame. However, I struggled with getting the object in the back to be removed, it kept ruining the image. If I created another work like this I may go where there are not any large objects in the background. My work shows that I learned portrait photography is.
