Food

Vanilla

I’m calling this project, Vanilla because these are my favorite kinds of cookies because I love vanilla.

The subject is simplicity based on a stack of vanilla cookies with one leaning on the stack.

I chose to create this specific work because when I was thinking about what food I could use for this project I was craving a cookie. For materials, I used the black box that I made, three vanilla cookies, and white light to brighten the photo. I used a variety of techniques and methods including a simple black background and I used a white light instead of using the flash. While creating this work, I paid close attention to the sharpness by having the camera still, using a black background, and a white light on the cookies. I wanted my artwork to look raw and exactly how it came out and I did that by not editing the photo at all, so this photo is completely raw. To add interest to my composition, I used rawness and clarity by not editing this image, and this image did not need to be edited. I like the way this photo came out and I am proud of the fact that I did not feel the need to edit this photo.

However, I struggled with finding other ideas and what other foods to use I tried using old kale and the photos came out good but the kale didn’t end up looking like kale anymore. If I created another work like this I may use other foods, maybe an orange that is being peeled of a vegetable being peeled and have a peeler next to it.

My work shows that I learned how I can have photos that have a lot of editing and then raw photos and they will still be very good photos.
