Glass/ Transparency

Pink

I’m calling this project, Pink because in this photo there are pick pointe shoes that you can see through the glass cup. The subject is the pointe shoes based on an idea that I had in my head. I chose to create this specific work because I didn’t want to use a simple window as the glass in my photo. For materials, I used a black box that I made out of black paint and canvases for a past project, I used different shapes of glass cups to find the best one to use. I used a black sweater under the glass so my green carpet was not seen, the last thing I used was my pointe shoes. I used a variety of techniques and methods including different tools in photoshop: the blur tool, sharpen tool, black and white layer mask then erase to make the photo color selection on the pick pointe shoes

While creating this work, I paid close attention to making sure that the pointe shoes are easily identified by making sure the pointe shoes are not too blurry and making them pop by making them pick and everything else black and white. I wanted my artwork to look different then others and not use a window and I did that by using a glass cup instead and put that up to the lens of the camera so you are looking through the glass at the pointe shoes. To add interest to my composition, I used contrast by making the photo into color selection. I like the way that this photo is something that I’ve never thought about doing and I am proud of how this photo came out and how the photo was taking through a glass. However, I struggled with figuring out what the subject of the photo would be, at first I tried using my cat or my dog but they would not sit still and none of my photos were coming out good, I had also tried using my heal taps but I thought that the pointe shoes looked the best.

If I created another work like this I might use a piece of broken glass and take the photo on the road with someone doing a leap in the center. My work shows that I learned how to use color selection with the new photoshop.
