Magnification

Coffee

I’m calling this project, Coffee because in the magnification of the glasses, in the book it says “hey, you want another coffee Megs?”, I was also drinking coffee while taking this photo. The subject is a part of the book that is magnified by the glasses. I chose to create this specific work because I did not have a magnifying glass so I had to think about what was going to magnify things. For materials, I used a book, tape, A wooden chair, my grandmothers’ old glasses, natural sunlight. I used a variety of techniques and methods including Taping the book down to keep the book from closing. While creating this work, I paid close attention to lighting by moving the chair into good lighting. I wanted my artwork to look like the words in the lens are bigger and sharper and I did that by using the glass lens to magnify the words and using the blur and dodge tool I photoshop. To add interest to my composition, I used Bright warm lighting by using natural sunlight and adding warmth to the photo. I like the way the glasses magnify the words and I am proud of the use of natural sunlight. However, I struggled with finding an idea for this project. If I created another work like this I may not use a book. My work shows that I learned how to use magnification without a magnifying glass.
