wire

For this project, we were asked to find something around our houses and or anywhere basically that was somewhat nostalgic to us for some reason. This object needed to be bigger than your hand but small enough to make in a few classes. The subject of my creation is just the wire elephant. My work was made with wire, needle nose pliers, round nosed wire, wire cutters and a smaller wire. For this project I used a few different elements of design, these elements consist of shape, line, space, texture, and form. I used shape when I used the wire to create the design that the wooden elephant had. I used line with the wire to create the wholeness of the elephant. I used space when there was no wire. I used texture when I was overlapping the wire to create the shapes of the carvings out of the wooden elephants. I used form with the whole elephant and the shape and depth that it created. For the principles of design I used balance, contrast, and movement and unity. I used balance with the amount of wire in each spot throughout the elephant, I used contrast with the thick and thin wire. I used movement when I made the location of the wire all messy. I used unity because it's all one material. The meaning and nostalgia in my artwork is I go the wooden elephant when I was really young. This project relates to my life because its mine and I've had it for a long time. I am pretty proud with how I made the outline of the elephant. Other than that I am not super proud of this piece of artwork because I feel like I could have done better. I struggled with the fish hooks and connections. I also struggled with how to make the carvings in the wooden elephant come out in the wire elephant. I would revise this by making the thinner wire more neat. I also would have taken more time with the general shaping of the elephant.
