84 colors

For this project we were first asked to chose a primary color, so either red, yellow or blue. I decided to choose red. Next, we were asked to choose a tertiary color, so either purple, orange or green. I decided to choose purple. With those two colors we were asked to make a scale of shades to tints. After we were finished with that we moved onto the summative. The summative was we had to use 84 colors shades and tints in one painting. For the summative (see left) I first decided I wanted to do something with umbrellas. My original idea was to do umbrellas in the city but I got bored with that idea and moved onto another. My second and final idea was to do umbrellas still but on a beach with the ocean. This work was made with an HB pencil, blue, yellow, red, white and black acrylic paint.

I used many elements of art. For example, I used color, value, shape, and space. I used color when I mixed all 84 of the colors for the umbrellas and ocean. I used value when we were asked to create shades and tints. I used shape when I created the umbrellas and when I divided up the colors for the umbrellas. And finally I used space when I put space in between all the umbrellas. Foe principles of design I used balance, contrast and movement. I used balance when I spread out the umbrellas all throughout the paper. I used contrast when I used the different colors and added shades and tints. I used movement when I created multiple umbrellas throughout the whole paper. My project evolved overtime, this is because at the beginning this wasn't even my idea, I changed it to something that inspired and was more fun to me.

There isn't really a meaning behind the artwork, to me it just brings me a sense of joy. This is because when I look at it i think about being or going to the beach and that brings joy to me and makes me happy because I really like the beach. The project relates to my life because I go to the beach a lot in the summer. I am proudest about the colors and how the shades and tints came out. I also really like the blend of blues that are in the water. I struggles when I was trying to make the colors not to have streaks or be transparent at all. This is because it took a lot of time to coat over. I think my artwork could be stronger this is because, I believe I could have been more patient and careful when I was painting the umbrellas because now some of the paint is where the sand is supposed to be.
