For this project we were asked to look through magazines and find things that attracted us or interested us. When I looked through I first found a bunch of random things that attracted me. The subject of my creation is pretty much just a lion holding a cake riding on top of a car. I put some clouds in the background, but when I finished I noticed that it looks a little weird with the clouds. This is because the clouds are in one spot and the car isn't doing anything it kind of just looks like it is floating but not floating at the same time. This work was made with magazines, carbon paper, and some paint. I used some elements such as color, value, shape, line and texture. I used color when I painted the car, lion, cake and sky. I used value in the clouds when I created depth and used light and dark blue. I used shape when I cut out the designs and subjects of the creation. I used line when I outlined the lion in black. I used texture when I made the cake, for example, I poked the dryish paint with a toothpick to create holes. I used principles of design as well, for example, I used contrast, emphasis, and movement. I used contrast with the colors, I used emphasis because for me the attention of the viewer is brought to the lion and the car. Finally, I used movement in the clouds. My project evolved when I changed the idea of what I was going to do, for example at first I was just cutting things out of the magazines that I found interesting, but then I didn't like what I had. I ended up just looking for random things but I found different things that I thought would let the people looking at it create a story, instead of just letting it be absolutely random. I don't really think this is a meaning behind this piece. I think it has a meaning, but I think that meaning can change for everyone. For me I don't really see a meaning, I see a lion holding a cake going somewhere but I'm not sure where. My project relates to my life because I made it, it also gives me a little hint of confusion and weirdness which I believe I have qualities of as well. I think I am proudest of my color mixing. This is because I originally didn't really think I was that great at mixing colors, but I was pretty proud about how the colors I mixed came out. I really struggled with the neatness of the piece, this is because I don't have steady hands and I was getting frustrated so my lines aren't all that neat. I kind of overcame this struggle by covering the parts I really messed up on with white. I do think my artwork could be stronger, If I were to go back I think I would take more time with painting so it would be neater, I also think I would have clouds around the whole project and not just in one spot to add a little more meaning.
