Squiggle Drawing

Artist Statement: For this project we were required to draw a single line, any shape or form. once we did this, we mixed all of our papers up and were given someone else's squiggle. Once we were given that squiggle, we were asked to make the squiggle into something. This could be something you did over the summer, or just something you see in the line. What I decided to create were mountains. I did this because, I saw the squiggle as a mountain shape. This lead me to draw a ski mountain. This because, I really enjoy skiing and it is a big passion of mine. This work was made with colored pencils and sharpies. For the elements of design, I used color, shape, line, space. I used color when I was creating the landscape and create a visual pleasure. I used shape when I used the line to create it into a ski mountain and other mountains. I used line when I was going off of the line to create the squiggle into something else. I used space with where I wanted each of the mountains to be in relation to the squiggle. For the principles of design, I used balance, contrast, emphasis, and unity. I used balance between the different colors and amount of colors on each side. I used contrast with the different colors and had them contrast against each other. I used emphasis with the squiggle and had that the center of the creation. I used unity when I had the project stand out. My project didn't really evolve over time, the only way it did was by me adding some color to give it some visual interest. I don't really think there is a meaning behind this artwork. Although, I did create it into a ski mountain because I like skiing a lot so I guess that has a little meaning. This project relates to my life because I made it and also because I like skiing like I mentioned before. I am not really proud of anything in this artwork because I don't really think that the ski mountain fits with the shape of the squiggle. I struggled with what to create the squiggle into because I felt like the stuff I thought of didn't fit very well. I overcame this struggle by just choosing one and continued to work instead of getting mad that I couldn't think of anything. i do think my artwork could be stronger because the squiggle doesn't look like a mountain so the whole project just doesn't really work, so if I were to go back, I would probably change the subject of my creation.
