Surrealism Painting

9"x 12"

Canvas paper, acrylic paint

The main idea of this art project was to create a collage using pictures from magazines. The next part of this project was to create a realistic design of the collage created, and paint it to look identical to the collage as possible. The leading subject of this art was to figure out how the use of different paint colors and paintbrushes could affect the way something is painted.

This work was made with a few different materials. The first collage made out of paper was made with thick construction paper and magazine paper. I used glue to stick the magazine to the paper and cut around the edges to make sure there was no loose material. The second collage made out of paint was made on canvas paper with acrylic paint. I used different paintbrushes to make it as close to the paper collage as possible which was difficult.

Something I realized while making this project was how to use paint in a way that makes it match colors. A difficulty I faced was knowing that the paint dries in a darker color than the color on the pallette which is a reason the painting may not look as identical to the collage itself. Another thing I noticed was how thin the yellow paint was. I struggled to cover my mistakes by using yellow because the original color still bled through. I will make sure to keep these in mind when doing another project like this again.
